Book Challenge: Howl's Moving Castle

Book: Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Challenge: Read a book that was turned into a major motion picture.

For those of you who haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle, it's an anime about a girl who is cursed by a wicked witch and searching for the Wizard Howl to fix the curse. Sort of..in a nutshell. The book, however, is much, much different than the movie. Some people I've talked to who read it after watching the movie didn't like it at all. I enjoyed it. Yes, it was much different, but because I knew this going into the book, I tried not to hold too closely to the movie in predicting the book. It's a fun fantasy read.

Chubby Bunny

So, my friend Cait and I decided to play Chubby Bunny the other night. Unfortunately, I only had the tiny marshmallows, but it was still really fun. If you're wondering why this is "Chubby Bunny #1," we are going to be playing this weekend with the jumbo marshmallows. This was kind of a practice run. Please ignore the awful lighting and my creep faces.

I'm sleeping!

I just remembered why I do not want children in the near future, or ever. It is 7:52 a.m. My alarm goes off at 8:39 a.m. because twenty one minutes to get ready for class is all I need. It's more than enough. So, imagine my irritated surprise when my nephew bursts in at 7:52 a.m. to tell me to wake up. Naturally, I mumble some not nice words under my breath, and roll over. That wasn't a good enough, "Go away, I'm sleeping here," gesture for  he comes back again two minutes later. "T! Wake up! I'm here now! Are you going to class today? Papa needs you. T!" "Then tell him he can wait, I'm sleeping here!" He then goes into the living room to tell my mom I was in a bad mood, and she said, "Of course she is. She was sleeping and you woke her up!"

I was actually still irritated when I started writing this, and now I'm laughing about it. Ohhh, children.

Book Challenge: The Book Thief

Book: The Book Thief by Mark Zusak

Challenge: Read a book set in a place you would like to visit.

Set in Nazi Germany, The Book Thief is the story of a girls' life during the reign of Hitler as told by Death. Liesel finds solace in books why her world crumbles around her as she realizes the impact Hitler has had on her life. She finds she must decide for herself what to believe in. While this book is phenomenally depressing at some parts, it is still a wonderful read. I was very intrigued by the creativity of the narrator being Death himself.

Nails, nails, nails.

I've become obsessed with lace and animal prints this summer. Anytime I see a leopard print shoe or lace tights, I squeal like a little girl (on the inside, of course). If only I had ridiculous amounts of money...-sigh-. One day, guys, one day I'll have a massive library and shoe collection.

Any who, I've been painting my nails a lot recently and I wanted to show you guys how cute my nails have been!

Cheetah print toes.

Neon colored cheetah print.

Attempted zebra french tip.

The last two pictures were inspired by Bubz, an internet beauty guru. Seriously, she's pretty awesome. Her videos are clear and straight to the point. She doesn't ramble or smack her lips. She has some funny videos posted on her blog as well, so she's not strictly beauty and fashion.

Totally forgot to post yesterday, so I'm combining days 2 and 3. :) I didn't post the link to the photo challenge in the last blog, so you can find it here.

My oh-so-hot outfit for Day 2.

Day 3: Clouds

Do the creep!

This is Creep Week, apparently, and not the Andy Samburg-he's-hilarious creep either. I mean legit creeps. Since Tuesday, I've had a weirdo in some form or another creep up on me.

Tuesday Creep:
I was a little early for my class, so I decided to go to Target to get a coffee. I'm walking up the aisle in the parking lot to the front doors when a car pulls up beside me. Inside is Creep #1 wearing Coca-Cola shorts.

Creep #1: Hey! Come here for a second, I've got a question for you.
Me: -staying where I am- Yes?
Creep #1: Come here. -sees worried, "like hell I'm coming over there" look on my face- Oh, no, girl, it's nothing like that. I just have a question.
Me: What is it?
Creep #1: Want to make $25?
Me: -thinking WTF- Uh, probably not.
Creep #1: Not like that, I just need you to go inside and buy me something.
Me: Yeahhh...no. I'm late for class.
Creep #1: Oh, are you in college? What's your name?
Me: Later. -power walks inside-

Wednesday Creep:
Randomly, I get a facebook message from a guy I do not know, nor am I facebook friends with him. Naturally, I checked out his facebook page which is how I found he has a girlfriend. Our conversation was as follows:

Add caption
What is that?!

Thursday Creep:
This one isn't terribly creepy, just...weird. I'm at WalMart getting a new bikini when this man about 40 years old comes up to me...

Thursday Creep: Excuse me, miss, I just wanted to tell you that you are an incredibly beautiful girl.
Me: Oh..thank you so much.
TC: I just love your hair. It's gorgeous, you're gorgeous.
Me: -nervous laughter because I then realize his wife is with him- Well, thank you, that's so nice.
TC's Wife: Oh, he does. He just loves red hair. His mother, his sister, and my mother all have red hair. I have auburn hair, but he really just loves it. You really a beautiful.
Me: Aww, thanks!
TC: I just wanted you to know that, have a great day, beautiful.

I was just dumbfounded.

On a different note, here's the bikini I ended up buying:

Guinness and pumps

Last night was Fancy Girls Night with Caitlin and Keisha, but it really turned into a jeans and heels kinda thing instead. Blame our laziness. Regardless, I made my first 30x30 outfit! We went to an Irish pub downtown where I tried Guinness for the first time. It was...stout. Not bad at all, just very stout.

Truly felt Irish. :P
Now for the outfit! I wore this outfit:
Bahaha. I was being sexy  silly.

My beloved navy pumps.

My hair was doing amazing things.
Shirt: Aeropostale
Jeans: American Eagle
Shoes: Payless

Books, books, books!

Sometimes I legitimately wish I had become an English major. I know I give my friend Katie a hard time sometimes, but it's all in jest. Perhaps after I graduate with my first bachelor's degree, I'll marry rich and stay home to read all day! Or go back to school for a liberal arts degree. Hmm...

This is my future library, guys. For real. ;)

Anywho. I can't wait for my summer Calc III class to end! I've got books piling up. So, since I'm on this whole challenge binge right now, I'm joining a challenge I found here. The rules are as follows:

GOAL: 8 titles that you have never read before! (10 for a bonus. Hey, why not )

CRITERIA: Choose any title in the following categories:

1. A book that was turned into a major motion picture.
2. A book set in a place that you would like to visit.
3. A book written by an author from your home country, region, or with your ancestoral background who lives in a foreign country.
4. A classic novel.
5. A book from the BBC list.
6. A novel by a first time author.
7.  A biography/autobiography/memoir about someone you admire.
8.  A book about the environment
9.  Free choice!
10. Free choice!

This challenge was supposed to be done between May and August, but I'll give myself until September to complete it! I'll post a blog after I finish each book.

"So, it ain't like it made no sense."

Alright, I know I'm kind of a judge-y pants, but I can't help it. When people open their mouths and the subjects and verbs don't agree with each other, unless your primary language is something other than English, I automatically think you're a moron. Especially when five minutes before I heard you talk about your education major. It's people like that that make me fear for any future children I may have. These people will be teaching our children and running our country. So, I'm sorry, but if you can't make sure your sentence doesn't have a double negative before you open your mouth, I don't want you teaching anyone's children. Ever. You've had English classes for a minimum of 13 years. Are you really that daft? Is it really that hard? Living in a hick state doesn't make it okay for you to sound like an idiot. You're the reason this state is so high on the Most Illiterate States list. In my Comp II class (mind you to be in Comp II, you had to PASS Comp I), there were at least three or four students who wrote their first essay in "text message lingo." Not even kidding. In the same class, a student asked, "What's this...con science word? What's it mean?" My mouth literally fell open. Con-science? Really? HOW DID YOU GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL?! I'm sorry I've ranted so long, I'm not even an English major. I'm sure this post has all kinds of grammatical errors, but you know what? At least my subjects and verbs agree, dammit.

Challenges and Summer Fun!

H'okay, so. (Yeah, I'm fighting the urge to continue quoting End of ze World, but I'll spare you.) I went over to the lovely Caitlin's house today to help her choose clothes for the 30x30 challenge. I can't wait to pick out my clothes...probably tomorrow, but definitely by Saturday, I swear. You may be asking yourself, "what the heck is the 30x30 challenge?!" Well, the 30x30 challenge is a thirty day challenge, I'm going to take longer because I don't go out ever, where you choose 30 articles of clothing (bottoms, tops, shoes) and using only those 30 items, make outfits for 30 days! So, I'll pick out my clothing and post a blog with the initial lot of clothing, then every time I make an outfit I'll blog about what I'm wearing and such. Keep in mind, I'm new at this fashion stuff, but I'm working on it.

Another challenge she brought to my attention was called...30 Day Photo Challenge? Maybe? I don't remember. Regardless, it's neat. There's a list of thirty items to take photos of or ways to take pictures for, you guessed it, 30 days.

Again with the challenges, I want to make a list of things I plan to accomplish this summer. As I accomplish them, I'll blog about it and all that good stuff.

Now, why the heck am I doing all these challenges?! Honestly, you guys CANNOT be that interesting in my uninteresting life, I mean, c'mon. I live in a small town where people hang out at the local WalMart. So, the first two challenges are to help me find new avenues for blogging, and the last is for me to make a list of goals for the end of the summer so that I can say I finally did SOMETHING exciting/interesting that will make you interesting my soon-to-be interesting life! Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll look up a synonym for 'interesting' later.

Summer sun, why must you hate me?

It's official, my love-hate relationship with the sweet summer sun has begun its course. I sat out on the porch with my family for Memorial Day soaking up the warm rays of the sun, lo and behold, I did get my first sun burn of the season. It's okay, though! It's just a tiny one. It'll be gone by tomorrow...and tomorrow I'll be laying out in the sun slathered with baby sunscreen. I wish my skin and the sun would just get along.
